Understanding Your Rights During Pregnancy: The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act

If you are pregnant but do not qualify for leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), you may still be entitled to workplace accommodations under a newer law—the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), which took effect in June 2023. This federal law requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for employees experiencing limitations due to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, as long as those accommodations do not create an undue hardship for the employer.

It outlines potential accommodations and explains how the PWFA differs from the FMLA.
